IMPORTANT UPDATE FROG-3 USER MANUAL25th January 2010
The FROG-3 is the leading industry standard for marine transfer equipment. In 2009 Reflex Marine decided to upgrade all manuals, starting with the FROG-3. This process has been aided through continuing dialogue with our clients allowing us to learn and share the benefits of field experience.
The new User Manual for the FROG-3 (Revision 16) supersedes the FROG-3 Client Technical Manual, revision 15.3 and is available for download below.
The main changes are:
- Revised inspection and maintenance frequency
Previously, recommended inspection was based on fixed 6 monthly and 12 monthly intervals. For installations where the FROG-3 is used for ad hoc emergency use, there will be no change to the inspection and maintenance recommendations. However, on some installations the FROG-3 is being used as a primary means of crew transportation. Our dialogue with clients has established that some units are performing 50 lifts per week, moving up to 7,500 passengers per year. We consider it important that the inspection frequency is matched to the level of use to provide the best integrity of crane transfer operations. The new inspection and maintenance recommendations are listed in Section 6 of the User Manual. - More helpful inspection and maintenance templates
The new User Manual contains inspection/examination checklist forms. These can also be downloaded in either Word or Excel format for ease of use. - Introduction of recommended unit retirement ages
The robust design of the FROG-3 (critical load path contains no welds) provides a vastly superior life of product compared to a rope basket or some welded frame baskets. This provides the lowest cost of ownership over a 5 year period. A number of FROG-3s built over 10 years ago are still in active service. As there have been changes to the model design, Reflex Marine plans to phase out support for some of the older units from the end of 2010. Section 6 of the User Manual provides new guidelines for unit retirement, based on service record.
